Making a project available on Altium 365 allows us to share the project and view it from a web browser.
The standard Altium Designer installation includes several example projects. We will choose an example project to learn about project storage with Altium 365. To begin working with Altium 365, we will use a simple project (Mini PC - SODIMM) that contains several schematic sheets (*.SchDoc), one PCB document (*.PcbDoc), and a Bill of Materials file (*.BomDoc). With this project, you’ll be able to evaluate the functionality of the Altium 365 platform and gain practical skills.
Navigate to the example project at the default installation path: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Altium\ADXX\Examples\Mini PC\Mini PC - SODIMM.
Double-click on the project file highlighted in the image below to open the project in Altium Designer.
Tip: We recommend that you copy the folder with the Mini PC - SODIMM project to another location so that you will always have the original version of the example project on the C: drive.
Right-click on the project name in the Projects panel then select Make Project Available Online.
The Make Available Online dialog opens. The Project Name field automatically contains the project name. In the Description field, we recommend that you enter the text that describes the project content. We also recommend selecting the Version Control option. With this option you will allow several users to work on the project from Altium Designer or any web browser and full project history capabilities.
Click Advanced; the Folder field displays the project location in Altium 365. Click OK.
Tip: The following error may occur due to restrictions on the usage of special symbols in the project name in Altium 365.
Now that you have saved and placed your project on the Altium 365 server, a green checkmark will appear to the right of the files in the Projects panel. The checkmark indicates the synchronization of your local files with the revision of the Altium 365 server.
The project can now be viewed through any Internet browser, including mobile browsers. To do this, click on Open Project in Web Browser.
Double-click on the project’s image to view available files, including schematic documents, PCB documents, and BOM documents.
